DIY Beard Products

DIY beard products offer full control over ingredients, avoid potential allergens, and can be significantly more cost-effective than premium commercial products. With a few quality carrier oils and essential oils, you can create effective beard oil, balm, and butter at home.

DIY Beard Oil

  • Base recipe: 50% jojoba oil + 30% argan oil + 20% sweet almond oil
  • Add 5–10 drops of essential oil per 1 oz (30ml) of carrier oil blend

Popular essential oils: cedarwood (woody, masculine), peppermint (refreshing), eucalyptus (fresh), sandalwood (warm)

  • Store in a dark glass dropper bottle — amber or cobalt blue blocks UV degradation

Use within 6–12 months for best potency

DIY Beard Balm

  • Melt 1 tbsp beeswax + 2 tbsp shea butter + 3 tbsp carrier oil blend in a double boiler
  • Remove from heat, add 10–15 drops essential oil, and stir well
  • Pour into small tins or lip balm containers and let cool completely
  • Adjust beeswax ratio for more or less hold — more wax = firmer hold

DIY Beard Butter

  • Combine shea butter + cocoa butter + argan oil in a 2:1:1 ratio
  • Whip with a hand mixer until light and fluffy
  • Add essential oils to fragrance and store in a glass jar

Safety Notes

Always test essential oils on skin before applying to beard — some are irritating at high concentrations

Never use essential oils undiluted on skin
