Even if you're growing your beard long, regular trimming is essential. It removes split ends, keeps your beard looking intentional rather than unkempt, and helps train the hair to grow in a desirable direction. Without trimming, beards can look scraggly and lose their shape quickly.
The neckline is the most important line to get right. A good rule of thumb: place two fingers above your Adam's apple — that's where your neckline should start. Shave or trim everything below that line clean. The neckline should form a gentle curve from ear to ear, not a straight line.
Your cheek line should follow the natural upper border of your beard growth. Most men don't need to do much here — simply cleaning up stray hairs above the main cheek line is usually enough. Avoid shaving the cheek line too low, as this can make your beard look thin.
Trim your beard every 1–2 weeks to maintain shape. Long beard growers should still trim every 3–4 weeks to remove split ends and keep edges crisp.
